Traditionally, Mate has been shared communally, in a circle of friends and family, as a symbol of friendship and union. Materos refers to the people in that circle and who have incorporated the Mate ritual into their daily lives. Over the decades, the Materos have included visionaries, creative icons, musicians, sporting legends and change-makers.
